Subject:Making armature for head

Hi, I am new and just purchased the DVD on making Santa Claus. It's very hard to see how the armature for head is made. Can someone help me and give better specs on the armature. Thank you for any help in this matter.

Hi Marina, I can't help with the specs for the armature in foil because when using foil , I have just sort of learned by trial and error on the shape and size. But( you may already know this), you can order the correct size head armature from Jack's site catalog. Sorry, I can't be more help to you. Perhaps someone else will jump in with more information. Best of luck with your santa, chris/www.chrisjonesoriginaldolls.com

For years everyone made head armatures out of aluminum foil. After 9-11 it became impossible to take your dolls through the airport security if they had an aluminum head. It looked like a solid mass of metal inside the dolls head. Scores of dolls were destroyed at the airport as a result. Therefore, we designed a head armature that was hollow (made of a high grade nylon. The new head armatures come in four sizes and do a great job. They are actually better than foil because they do not cause cracks as badly as foil. You may see them on this website. Good luck, Jack

Hi Jack, thank you for this information about the foil armature. Since I have never flown , Id didn't realize that your could not go through air port security with a doll having that type of armature. chris jones

Once we designed the hollow nylon armature we never had another problem with getting through airport security.
