Hello Gang, Just a quick question concerning the event. I live about an hour drive from there and would very much like to attend the event. I'm only just finding out about the event, since I'm relatively new to the doll world. Unfortunately, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to locate the cost on attendance, and, do you have to purchase a ticket ahead of time, or can they be bought at the door? I also seen mentioned some type of classes during the seminar, but again, no listed information in detail. If I could obtain any information on the show event that would be of great help. :-) Thanks ahead of time for your troubles. Lori

Hi Lori, you will probably be able to find out the information on the Doll Reader Magazine site. I am having some connection problems with my server, or I would find the info and give it to you. Just do a search on Doll Reader magazine or Madavor. com. I may be wrong , but I think Madavor bought Idex. chris jones

The IDEX show is one of the best in the nation. You may read about it at Google and the IDEX Orlando doll and teddy bear show. Yes, you may purchase tickets at the door. There is a small charge, but not much. It is well worth seeing. If you come to the show, please stop by the Professional Doll Makers Art Guild booth and say hello. I will be there all day long for the length of the show. See you soon. Jack

I'm at the Orlando IDEX Doll Show. I'm very pleased with the dolls that are on exhibit. Everything is here from Teddy Bears to Baby Dolls, and one-of-a-kind original artdolls. All of the major artist and hundreds of new professional artists are here. I will report back tomorrow night as to some of the special events, etc. I will also be taking photos of the best dolls and will post the in the "Gallery" section of artdolls.com. If you are at the show, please come by the Professional Doll Makers Art Doll Guild and say hello. You will be pleasantly surprised at all of the wonderful doll.

IDEX 2008 was a great success. It is was the best show I've been to in 5-6 years. The dolls were wonderful and the sales were brisk. Sales have been declining for the past 10 years, but seem to have hit bottom and are on the rebound. All of the vendors and artists that I spoke with at the show had great things to say about the show. As always it was the baby dolls that sold first. All of the quality baby dolls in the Professional Doll Makers Art Guild booth sold. Those that didn't sell learned what they have to do to improve and to reach their target market. I went to dinner on Saturday night with the owner of Jones Publication and his staff. They are all upbeat about the IDEX show and plan to improve the EXPO show this August in Washington, D.C. to meet the standards set by the IDEX show. I will have new photos posted from the show within the next few days.

Yes, the miniature dolls actually sold much faster than the full scale dolls. Miniatures, premie and half scale dolls all sold first, then the full scale babies sold. It seems that everyone is running out of shelf space so they are looking for smaller dolls. By the way the miniatures and the half scale dolls sold for the same price as the life scale babies. If the babies were good they will sell, the less desirable baby dolls didn't sell as well. Of course that is always the case. Thanks for your questions. Jack

Hi Jack, I'm so glad everyone did so well at the Idex show. I am planning to go to the Doll and Teddy bear show in August. Any suggestions on what kind of dolls to bring in order to sell other than baby dolls? I usually just make character dolls and Santas.

Jack thank you for the info on the miniature and half scale dolls. This will help me in my marketing. Especially the fact that the little dolls sale for the same price as the life size ones. I think I am selling mine at too low a price. chris

The Baby Dolls have and will likely always sell first. They are bringing prices from $450 to $1,250. Most of them sold during the wholesale part of the show for around $500. There were several that sold during the retail day for full price too. If you want to sell at any of the major shows you should count on doing a baby doll. Miniatures sold just as fast as the life scale dolls. Half scale sold for the same money as the large ones. The very small miniatures (three inches long) sold very well too. They sold from $125 to $400. The really good ones sold right away for the higher prices. It just proves that quality sells. Good luck, Jack

I appreciate you giving the price ranges Jack. It looks like I am charging about right for my 3-4 inch dolls, but low on the bigger minis. One of these days I plan on attending one of the big dolls shows like Idex. It must be great to be among all those taleneted doll people. Anyway ,for now it is good to have folks like you to report back to the ones who stay at home. thanks again, chris
